Human Evolution: Extinct? Part Two

Seeing from the overwhelming response of the last post, I will continue on the topic of human evolution.  It could be said that natural evolution is at the very least stunted due to modern advances in technology and medicine.  This being said, it would take some unforeseen force to continue evolution in humans at the same rate it has occurred in the past.  Now, what if people were in charge of this "natural selection"?  I'm glad eugenics was brought up in the previous post, because that is exactly what forced, man-made evolution is.  We've seen Hitler try this, and the results were disastrous. What if people were just randomly killed at birth, with no rhyme or reason?  Would this help evolution, or would it do nothing but throw a theoretical wrench into the evolution engine?

In the next post, I will discuss where I believe human evolution is going.

  1. Not very PC, but we have an example of selective breeding in humans - slaves in the US. 200 years of selective breeding gave us a gene pool that dominates every pro sport (apart from swimming and cycling).

  4. I think the greeks and romans did that thing, where they inspected the child at birth and if it wasn't good, then they killed it. but i could be wrong.

  5. race distinction will deteriorate to the point where all humans will be a mix of nearly all elasticities. that is my prediction

  8. There is still selective breeding going on, for example, pretty people sex up other pretty people.

  9. I believe that because of globalization, instead of selective breeding, we are headed for a "common breeding" where people of different continents are mixing up the gene pool...

  19. The point is we virtually are evovling even though natural selection had gone. If we keep soloving our problems we are doing natural selections job for it :P although its a little more complicated than that hehe
    great post m8 ty :D

  23. Humankind hasn't evolved since the stone age and probably won't evolve in a long time if we're lucky enough to preserve the current living conditions. We breed selectively as we have always done, like slaves to our natural instincts. Evolution may happen quickly if living conditions are radically altered but it will remain intact if there is no threat to the survival of a species.

    Anyway, great post, following.

  26. I doubt we will ever evolve again.

  27. Yeah. The genes that we'd like to keep out of the gene pool are reproducing due to society and technology, but I doubt killing babies would change that. I think forcing a change out of our increasingly sedentary lifestyle might do the trick.

Great blog, thanks for the follow! Following you as well. Good read.

  33. We are at the point in technology where we can begin experimenting to evolve ourselves, though. We decoded the human genome, and we are getting into the practice of modifying genes to produce desirable children. If nothing else, within 100 years we will have smarter, better looking children. The designer baby industry.
